BERKELEY HEIGHTS – Summit Medical Group is pleased to present "Breaking Boundaries: The Art of Alex Masket," Thursday, September 24, at Summit Medical Group in the lower lobby gallery of Lawrence Pavilion at 1 Diamond Hill Road in Berkeley Heights. A reception that will be open to the public, will be held that evening from 5 PM until 8PM.

The exhibit reception also will premiere a 17-minute documentary film about Alex and his art in the Education Center at the Group. The film is a close-up look at Alex, an artist with severe autism, and his remarkable work.

The documentary on Alex's work was filmed and directed by Dennis Connors of Montclair, New Jersey. Connors was born in Buenos Aires, raised south of Boston, and has spent 30 years in northern New Jersey. His still photography work includes editorial, corporate, and advertising assignments as well as personal projects, including the recent addition of filmmaking. His work has given him the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, visit places off the beaten path, and it has opened new doors for him. Of this premiere, Connors says, "Filming Alex and his art over the past year has been an extraordinary journey. I thank the Masket family for allowing me to witness this period of accomplishment in Alex's life."

Entirely self-taught, Alex is drawn to the interaction of color and form. Utilizing various media in unorthodox ways to realize his vision, Alex creates pieces that are intricately composed and beautifully balanced. He displayed his sophisticated sense of color and his interest in letters and numbers at the age of 2. Now 22, he used his instinctive understanding of color, light, and form to reveal his unique view of the world. He lives with his family in Westfield, New Jersey, and he works from a studio at home. He attends an adult day program at the Children's Center of Monmouth County in Neptune, New Jersey.
