Berkeley Heights, NJ – Communitas Awards has recognized Summit Medical Group for leadership in community service and corporate social responsibility.
The Communitas Awards is an international effort to recognize the spirit of communitas, people helping people. Communitas winners unselfishly give themselves and their resources and are changing the way they do business to benefit their communities. Communitas winners are recognized for specific programs involving volunteerism, philanthropy, or ethical, sustainable business practices. Some businesses, organizations, and individuals also are recognized as Leadership winners because of their excellence in multiple programs. Summit Medical Group supports its community and its environment in a number of ways that merited recognition, including:
- Planting of more than 300 trees to improve the surrounding landscape
- Deacquisition of old electronic and medical equipment through locally-sponsored e-waste recycling events
- Raising more than $30K for Haitian Earthquake Relief
- Annual Food drive to benefit the Community Food Bank
- Annual Toy Drive
- Free health lecture series
- Support of more than 50 local organizations
- A complete list of winners can be found on the Communitas Web site at www.communitasawards.com.
Communitas nominees are chosen for the extent and effectiveness of their programs. The size and potential scope of the nominee also is considered. Communitas Awards is an outgrowth of the pro bono recognition program of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), a several-thousand member group that honors creative achievement and fosters partnerships with charities and community organizations. As part of its mission, AMCP awards grants to community organizations and underwrites a large portion of Communitas expenses.
"By recognizing individuals, organizations and companies for their volunteerism and socially responsible business practices, we are hoping to bring attention to great programs and work with community minded leaders to make the spirit of communitas an essential element of every business," said Ed Dalheim, AMCP Executive Director.
