Berkeley Heights -- Summit Medical Group recently received a Customized Training Grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD).

Donna Stoveken, manager of SMG's training and education department worked with William Paterson University and their subcontractor, TNT Educational Services, to obtain the grant. “SMG 's focus is always on our patients,” said Stoveken. “This grant allows our staff to receive a full range of valuable training, so they may continue to provide the exceptional patient care that has been our hallmark since 1929.”

Upon receipt of the grant, SMG launched a customer service initiative, called “I AM SMG.” The initiative is broken down into training components that focus on a different customer service topic such as image, accountability, communication, and service and hospitality. Staff attend two-hour sessions once a month. “This initiative will enhance the professionalism and education of all employees and is part of SMG’s continued efforts towards superior service to their community,” added Stoveken.

According to the LWD department website, the Customized Training Grant program was established in 1992. It is a powerful development tool designed to create and retain high-skill, high-wage private sector jobs in New Jersey as a means to ensure productive, globally competitive workers.
