Joy Pierce Mathews develops original articles as well as all content for the Summit Medical Group Web site, including information about services, physicians, disease states, and news. She is a 2012 Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals Ava Award Winner, a 2011 American Business Association Stevie Awards finalist for Best Writing and Content for a Web Site, and an eHealthcare Strategy & Trends Leadership Award winner. Most recently, she earned the 2011 MarCom Gold Award for Best Health/Health Care Web Site Content as well as honorable mentions for her landing pages, contributions to the home page, and print brochures.
Ms. Pierce Mathews has more than 20 years’ experience writing and editing professional and consumer interactive and print content in medical education, communications, and medical/health care publications. Before joining Summit Medical Group, she was Associate Creative Director for Ignite Health in Somerset, New Jersey, where she managed the copy and editorial staff, wrote content, and developed strategies for professional and consumer pharmaceutical Web sites. Her previous positions include Editorial Director for Cline, Davis & Mann Interactive Connect in New York City; Editorial Director for MediMedia Educational Group in Chatham, New Jersey; Senior Medical Editor/Medical Writer for Thomson Healthcare in Montvale, New Jersey; Managing Editor for Cardinal Health in Wayne, New Jersey; and Managing Editor/Science Writer for HeartInfo, an award-winning Web site for cardiovascular information. She began her writing career at CBS Masterworks in New York City. Ms. Pierce Mathews is a member of the Healthcare Business Women’s Association, American Medical Writers Association, Council of Science Editors, and Modern Language Association.
Ms. Pierce Mathews studied violoncello at The Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland, Ohio, and earned a BA with concentration in writing and English at Montclair University in Montclair, New Jersey. After graduating, she studied violoncello at The Juilliard School of Music in New York City, while teaching and performing professionally in the New York metropolitan area. She has been a faculty member at Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey, and Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, New Jersey, and she has taught part time at Bloomfield College and Montclair State University. In addition to her medical writing, Ms. Pierce Mathews is a published poet, librettist, chamber music arranger, and short-story author.
