The Summit Medical Group Diabetes Live Well Program, which provides outstanding medical, educational, and support services for people with diabetes, has been awarded the prestigious American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognition Certificate.
The ADA Education Recognition Program recognizes Summit Medical Group among other organizations across the nation. To be recognized, programs must have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who provide patients with comprehensive information about diabetes management. "The ADA's education certification process gives professionals a national standard for measuring the quality of services for patients in their program," says Jeffrey Bauman, MD. Dr. Bauman is a board-certified endocrinologist and Head of the Summit Medical Group Diabetes Live Well Program.
According to the ADA, 7% of the US population has diabetes and approximately one-third of these people are unaware they have the disease. Important facts about diabetes:
- Many people first learn that they have diabetes when they are treated for one of its life-threatening complications
- Complications include kidney disease, blindness, nerve disease, amputation, heart disease, and stroke
- Two in every 3 people with diabetes die from heart attack and stroke
The ADA is the nation’s leading nonprofit health organization supporting diabetes research, advocacy, and information for health professionals, patients, and the public. Founded in 1940, the ADA has an area office in every state and conducts programs in communities nationwide. For more information, you may visit www.diabetes.org.
