Innovative Relationship Advances Cancer Care in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY – Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Summit Medical Group (SMG) together announce a new collaborative relationship for the care of people with cancer. The initiative will give New Jersey residents who have cancer greater access to a broad array of services offered at both MSKCC and SMG.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s regional care facility in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, offers a disease-focused team approach to outpatient cancer care. Summit Medical Group, a multispecialty physician practice with a main campus in Berkeley Heights and six area satellites, offers comprehensive, coordinated medical care. Both parties use a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care and are located within 15 minutes of each other along Route 78. MSKCC and SMG will work collaboratively toward providing complementary clinical services to New Jersey residents who have cancer and may not have an established relationship with another physician or group.

SMG will offer patients of Memorial Sloan-Kettering who live in New Jersey access to a wide range of non-oncologic clinical services to support and supplement the cancer care those patients receive at Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Basking Ridge facility.  Such services will include presurgical testing and perioperative consultations, general medical and gynecologic care, behavioral health services, as well as a location for MSKCC’s specialized program for cancer survivors. MSKCC will provide clinical services to SMG cancer patients, including an expanded array of clinical trials, additional diagnostic services such as PET-CT, pathology consultations, and treatments not offered at Summit Medical Group.

"This relationship will ensure cancer patients in the area greater continuity of care, efficient sharing of medical information via our electronic medical record, and provision of high quality medical services," states Robert W. Brenner, MD, MMM, Medical Director for Summit Medical Group.

“The synergy between the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s team and the Summit Medical Group will benefit our New Jersey citizens in innumerable ways and allow for the highest quality of comprehensive cancer and medical care close to home and in our community,” adds Maureen Killackey, MD, Deputy Physician-in-Chief and Medical Director of MSKCC’s Regional Network.
