Shindle, MD, has been selected to cover the 2011 US Men's National Select Team at the German Cup, November 11 through 13, in Munich. Dr. Shindle will join a prestigious coaching staff that includes Former New Jersey Devil and 2-time (1995, 2009) Stanley Cup champion Bill Guerin as well as 3-time (1986, 2002, 2008) Stanley Cup champion and all-time leader in games played by a defenseman in National Hockey League (NHL) history (1,651) Chris Chelios.

He has been Assistant Team Physician for the NFL New York Giants and MLS New York Red Bulls. Dr. Shindle earned his BA magna cum laude at the University of Delaware and he earned his MD at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. During medical school, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship in surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and he completed his residency in surgery at the US News and World Report top-ranked Hospital for Special Surgery, both in New York City. Dr. Shindle completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery and he completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery with Roger Mann, MD, in Oakland, California.
Dr. Shindle's research interests are primarily devoted to sports foot and ankle injuries, rotator cuff repair, and articular cartilage injuries. He has been Principal Investigator for a study involving National Football League (NFL) athletes. In the study, Dr. Shindle and his research team measured the vitamin D levels of 89 football players from a single NFL team during the players' routine spring 2010 training evaluations. Each player's vitamin D levels were classified based on race and time lost as a result of muscle injury. Results of the study showed that low levels of vitamin D increased players' odds of muscle injury. Dr. Shindle presented findings of his research at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) annual meeting, July 2011, in San Diego, California.
A gifted speaker, Dr. Shindle has delivered more than 21 local, regional, national, and international invited presentations in his field. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, among others.
