SMG Prepares Physicians for Leadership

Last updated: Mar 16, 2010

Summit Medical Group is participating in a New York University Stern School of Business Strategic Leadership Development program for its current and future physician leaders. The 10-session program has been customized for the Group and features discussion on a wide variety of topics, including health care economics and strategy, ethics, professional responsibility, change management, finance for medical executives, and health care reform, among others. Participants include SMG board members and a few management team members, all of whom represent a variety specialists in the Group.

"The course has given us an opportunity to learn about medicine from a completely different perspective," says Summit Medical Group physician Richard O. Nelson, MD. "It is teaching us how to better manage our organization and deal with the ever-changing landscape of health care. It will ultimately help us provide better, more efficient care to our patients."

The sessions are held approximately once monthly and alternate between the Summit Medical Group headquarters in New Jersey and the New York University campus.

Summit Medical Group is one of a select few health care organizations participating in the program.
