Dr. Bullek was born and raised in Somerset County, New Jersey. He attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts on a Football Scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. As a Senior, he was named an Academic All American Football Player. Dr. Bullek attended UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School graduating in 1987. He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City in 1992. During his years at Columbia Presbyterian, he became interested in shoulder surgery and was privileged to study with Dr. Charles Neer, Dr. Louis Bigliani, and Dr. Evan Flatow. From these mentors he gained extensive experience in shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff surgery and shoulder replacement.
His fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Knee Replacement at Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York City was complete in 1993. During his fellowship, he studied under Dr. John Insall – a world renowned knee replacement pioneer and Dr. Norman Scott – team physician for the New York Knicks professional basketball team. Dr. Bullek has authored multiple articles as well as contributed several chapters for textbooks on knee surgery. He has also lectured in multiple symposiums on knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Bullek has been active in the Joint Replacement Center at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey and is an active member of the Insall Club – a group of international surgeons with expertise in knee surgery from many major world famous teaching hospitals. This group meets every 18 months to discuss new treatments for all major knee problems. Dr. Bullek is also a member of the executive board of the Union County Medical Society. He is also a Board Member of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society for which he is course director for the NJOS Fall Symposium.
Dr. Bullek is married with three children and resides in Westfield.
