Personal Notes

Before joining Summit Medical Group, Gary Pien, MD, PhD, FAAP, was Attending Physician in the Division of Allergy and Immunology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to his position with Summit Medical Group Allergy, Dr. Pien is an allergist and immunologist at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey. His expertise includes pediatric allergies, immune deficiencies, and recurrent infections. The American Board of Allergy and Immunology and American Board of Pediatrics certify him in allergy/immunology and pediatrics, respectively.

A sought-after speaker, Dr. Pien has delivered local, regional, national, and international invited presentations concerning immunology. His research interests include new diagnostic approaches and treatments for asthma, food allergies, and anaphylaxis as well as new diagnostic testing and managment of immune deficiencies. He is the author or coauthor of articles and abstracts concerning these and related topics, which are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Immunology, and Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Dr. Pien is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and American Contact Dermatitis Society. He is a former member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Pennsylvania Allergy and Asthma Association, and American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.

Dr. Pien is the recipient of 18 honors and awards, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science Excellence in Science Award and Hasbro Children's Hospital Excellence in Pediatric Emergency Department Award. The Consumer Research Council of America lists him among "America's Top Pediatricians," and he has been listed in New Jersey Monthly's "Top Doctors" for 2010 and 2011.
