Advice to patients:

Although the avoidance of sunburning is important, the total amount of ultraviolet radiation absorbed by the skin from sun exposure over time is considered to be a major risk factor for the development of skin cancer and premature aging of the skin. Therefore, it is advisable to get into the routine of using a sunscreen lotion of SPF 30 or higher on all sun-exposed areas of skin, whenever even a small amount of sun exposure is anticipated. Adhering to this regimen is a form of preventive medicine which may help to reduce the incidence of future skin problems.
