John Hurley, MD, is an orthopedist in practice with Summit Medical Group in Morristown, New Jersey. An orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports injuries of the knee and shoulder for more than 20 years, his expertise includes surgical joint restoration such as lower extremity realignment, meniscal transplantation, and articular cartilage regeneration in young and middle-aged athletes.
To his credit, Dr. Hurley is Team Physician for several universities and high schools in Morris County and a member of advisory boards for the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Board and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of New Jersey. He also is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Association, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and the Morris County Medical Society, among others.
Dr. Hurley’s professional experience includes Attending Orthopedist at Henry Ford Hospital and Orthopedic Surgeon for the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers in Detroit, Michigan. Before he was appointed the first Medical Director of Sports Medicine for Morristown Memorial Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey, he was an orthopedist in private practice.
An accomplished athlete, Dr. Hurley attended Manhattan College on a full basketball scholarship. He was designated Varsity Basketball Team Captain to Manhattan College’s nationally ranked, top-20 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-Division 1 team. Inspired by his positive experience as an athlete, coach, and father, Dr. Hurley’s goal as a physician is to help other athletes achieve their goals. He is listed in Castle Connolly's "America's Top Doctors" and New Jersey Monthly's "Top Doctors."
