Michael K. Shindle, MD, has expertise in sports medicine-related injuries of the shoulder and knee, ankle and elbow. His training and experience allow him to provide comprehensive care for athletes, including those who participate in professional, collegiate, high school, and recreational sports.
Dr. Shindle is Team Physician for the National Hockey League New Jersey Devils, Orthopedic Consultant for the National Football League New York Giants, Team Physcian for the Major League Soccer New York Red Bulls, Team Physician for USA Hockey, Team Physician for Fairleigh Dickinson University, Team Physician for Madison High School Athletics. In addition, Dr. Shindle is a physician with the State of New Jersey Athletic Control Board and involved in coverage of professional mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions.
Dr. Shindle has been a Team Physician for USA Hockey since 2011. Most recently and to his credit, Dr. Shindle was the Team USA physician for the International Ice Hockey (IIHF) World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Dr. Shindle is Former Head Team Physician for the USA Hockey Men's National Team at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada. He has covered the 2011 US Men's National Select Hockey Team that competed at the Deutschland Cup in Munich, Germany.
Dr. Shindle specializes in advanced arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, ligament reconstruction, and cartilage restoration procedures as well as fracture care and tendon repair. In addition, Dr. Shindle as expertise in nonsurgical treatment for common overuse and arthritic conditions including viscosupplementation, platelet rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell technology.
Dr. Shindle's research interests are primarily devoted to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, Achilles tendon repair, and cartilage restoration techniques. He is the author of articles, abstracts, and book chapters on these and related topics, some of which are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and Arthroscopy.
Dr. Shindle has delivered more than 60 local, regional, national, and international invited presentations in his field. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Association of North America, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, among others. He is listed in the New Jersey Family "New Jersey's Favorite Kids' Docs" listings.
Dr. Shindle is a native of Madison, New Jersey. He was a former captain for the Madison High School and University of Delaware Ice Hockey Team. When he is not working with patients, Dr. Shindle enjoys playing and coaching ice hockey. He is a USA Hockey certified coach and currently coaches his son Peter with the NJ Colonials. He has been an Assistant coach for the Madison High School Varsity Ice Hockey Team, and Graduate Assistant Coach for the University of Delaware Ice Hockey Team.
