After completing his residency, Dr. Nelson served in the US Navy Reserve at the Navy Regional Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, and aboard the USNS Comfort in the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Dr. Nelson has served on the Summit Medical Group Board of Directors and is a member of the Overlook Medical Center Primary Care Leadership Council. He is President of the Joseph E. Enright Foundation—a nonprofit organization that offers community health education programs on skin cancer prevention and provides scholarships for local students pursuing a future in health care. In 2010, New Jersey Monthly listed Dr. Nelson in “Top Doctors."

Dr. Nelson believes that the complexities of modern life make it especially important to exercise, eat right, and take time to relax and enjoy life. When he is not working with his patients, he enjoys fishing, skiing, photography, and attending his children’s sporting events.
