What is this medicine used for?

This medicine is a shampoo used to treat dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis of the scalp.

What should my healthcare provider know before I take this medicine?

Tell your healthcare provider if you are allergic to any medicine.

Females of childbearing age: Tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine without your healthcare provider's approval.

How do I use it?

This medicine is for external use only. Use it only as directed. Do not use it more often than recommended.

To use this medicine, wet your hair with warm water. Apply the shampoo and rub it in to work up a good lather for 5 minutes, then rinse. Repeat and rinse again. Wash your hands immediately after use.

Keep this medicine away from your eyes. If you accidentally get it in your eyes, flush them well with water.

What if I overdose?

An acute overdose of this medicine is not likely to cause life-threatening symptoms. If you think that you or anyone else may have taken too much of this medicine, call the poison control center at 800-222-1222.

What should I watch out for?

This medicine may temporarily discolor blond, tinted, or bleached hair.

Do not use ammoniated mercury on your scalp at the same time as this medicine. It may cause a bad odor and stain your scalp black. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Keep this medicine in a safe place away from other medicines that are swallowed to avoid accidentally swallowing it.

What are the possible side effects?

Along with its needed effects, your medicine may cause some unwanted side effects. Some side effects may be very serious. Some side effects may go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that continue or get worse.

Serious (report this to your healthcare provider): Skin irritation after using this medicine.

Other: Temporary discoloration of blond, bleached, or tinted hair.

What products might interact with this medicine?

Do not use ammoniated mercury on your scalp while you are using this medicine because it may stain your scalp and hair black and cause a bad odor.

Keep a list of all your medicines with you. List all the prescription medicines, nonprescription medicines, supplements, natural remedies, and vitamins that you take. Be sure that you tell all healthcare providers who treat you about all the products you are taking.

How should I store this medicine?

Store this medicine at room temperature. Keep the container tightly closed. Protect it from heat, high humidity, and bright light.
