Breast Lift (Mastopexy) With Implants
Pregnancy, nursing, and the effects of age and gravity can cause breasts to lose volume, sag, and change shape. Breast lift (or mastopexy) raises and reshapes sagging breasts. Patients undergoing mastopexy also often have the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) reduced. If you are considering breast lift and have small breasts that have lost volume over the years, implants also can be used with mastopexy to enhance the firmness and size of your breasts.
Although mastopexy successfully lifts the breasts and restores a more youthful shape, incisions must be made on the top of the breast to relocate the areola and nipple. As a result, there is visible scarring. Many patients find that the scars fade considerably over time; however, patients with darker or thicker skin are likely to always see the scars. If you are considering mastopexy, ask your surgeon to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the procedure with you. He or she will examine you and tell you what you can expect after the procedure.
