Consultation
Consultation for the procedure includes a thorough discussion of your desires, expectations, and concerns as well as limits and risks of the surgery. The surgeon will review your medical history and recommend options that would be suitable for you. He or she also will take pictures of and carefully examine your face, with attention to the balance between all your features, including your nose, cheeks, chin, brow bone, and overall shape and size of your face.
Candidates
Men and women of any age who would like more balanced facial features and who are in good overall health are candidates for facial implants. For example, a teenager with a prominent nose and weak chin might wish to enhance his or her chin so that it is balanced with the nose, whereas mature patient might request cheek implants during a facelift to restore a more youthful appearance.
The Procedure
In most cases, the procedure is performed in our ambulatory surgery center under twilight anesthesia. It usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Recovery and Results
If you undergo a cheek or chin implant, your surgeon will give you thorough written instructions to prepare for and recover from your surgery. Most patients describe having minimal discomfort after the procedure. Recovery for cheek and chin implants is usually very quick, and the results are permanent.
