Genital Labial Reduction (Female Plastic Surgery)

Enlarged, lengthened, or asymmetrical labia can occur on one side and on both sides. It can be cosmetically bothersome but also functionally problematic, causing irritation, difficulty sitting, and hygiene issues. Genital labial reduction can restore a more youthful appearance and eliminate problems associated with enlarged or lengthened labia.

New advancements in labiaplasty have made it possible for surgeons to lessen scarring, pain, and recovery time. Although it was originally only used for swimsuit and nude models, the procedure has become almost as common as other cosmetic procedures such as tummy tucks and breast augmentation.

Before and after photos are available during consultation.

Consultation
Consultation for the procedure includes a thorough discussion of your desires, expectations, and concerns as well as limits and risks of the surgery. The surgeon will review your medical history and recommend options that would be suitable for you. He or she also will take pictures of and carefully examine your genitals.

Candidates
The best candidates for labiaplasty are women who are in relatively good shape but are dissatisfied with their enlarged, lengthened, or asymmetrical labia. Because pregnancy and childbirth can stretch the labia, women who wish to have children should postpone the procedure until they will no longer go through pregnancy and childbirth.

The Procedure
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure that is usually performed under local anesthesia.

Recovery and Results
If you undergo labiaplasty, you will receive thorough written instructions to prepare for and recover from your procedure. The instructions will include how to reduce the potential for infection and when to follow up with your surgeon.

Most patients describe minor discomfort for about a week or 2 after the procedure. Scars are usually not visible.
