Summit Health Hand Therapy can improve the way your hands feel and function through hand rehabilitation / hand therapy services.

Our experienced hand therapists specialize in evaluating and treating orthopedic conditions and upper extremity injury in people of all ages. We can examine your hands and tell you what approach will be safe and best for you.

A complex part of the body, the hands are comprised of joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and bones that work together to allow a wide range of function. When one part of the hand is impaired, function can be diminished or lost.

Problems with the hands can result from a variety of conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, diseases such as arthritis or Parkinson’s, an accident, or a congenital defect.

What is Hand Therapy?

Hand therapy involves a variety of hand rehab techniques to regain as much function to the hands as possible. The goal of hand therapy is to strengthen and restore use of your hand(s) after an injury, surgery, or disease.

Our specially trained hand therapists can teach you about the safe and proper use of equipment (ergonomics) such as computer keyboards. They also can train you about safe movement and things you should avoid to protect your hands from injury. They can help you regain function you need to return to work after an injury or surgery.

Hand therapy and hand rehabilitation can include pain management for patients who are experiencing chronic pain in the hands or wrists. The techniques can sometimes include the use of splints and exercises.

Do You Need Hand Rehabilitation?

If you have pain or loss of function in your hands or fingers, you may be a candidate for hand therapy. If you are having pain in your hands or difficulty doing things that should come naturally with them, you should see your doctor. He or she can tell you whether hand rehab can help you.
