Wellness and Complementary Medicine
Complementary Medicine at Summit Medical Group provides chiropractic care, Tai Chi for arthritis through our acupuncturist, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, hand therapy, occupational therapy, and acupuncture for patients with chronic disease as well as those who wish to focus on wellness and prevention.
Alternative Medicine or Integrative Medicine?
Complementary medicine is sometimes called alternative medicine or integrative medicine, but alternative and integrative medicine are not the same. Alternative medicine involves health and wellness treatments that do not include conventional medicine techniques such as surgery and pharmaceutical drugs.
Complementary medicine or integrative medicine combine conventional medicine with alternative medicine. Our health care professionals at Summit Medical Group partner with physicians in internal medicine to identify complementary therapies that can improve your overall health and well-being.
A Focus on Wellness
Our skilled staff thoughtfully considers all your health and wellness concerns to care for you as a whole person. This includes treatment for acute illnesses and injuries as well as health maintenance therapies and treatments that promote ongoing wellness.
Our complementary medicine services include but are not limited to:
Chiropractic Care - a noninvasive, manual therapy that adjusts the musculoskeletal system to realign the skeleton (especially the spine) to reduce both acute and chronic pain and promote proper functioning of the body.
Massage Therapy - a variety of techniques applied to the muscular structure and soft tissues such as kneading, stroking, tapping, compression, and pressure to reduce stress and fatigue and improve blood circulation.
Nutrition Services - healthy diet recommendations from our nutritionists to lose weight, eat well during pregnancy, and/or promote wellness.
Hand Therapy - techniques that give you the opportunity to restore the use of your hand(s) after an upper extremity injury, surgery, or a disease that affects hand function.
Acupuncture - a treatment that uses very fine needles to address pain and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself.
