Biren Saraiya, MD, specializes in lung cancer, leukemia, and lymphomas.
Before joining Summit Medical Group, Dr. Saraiya was Medical Director of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in Hamilton, where he started the Lung Cancer Screening Program. He was previously a consultant oncologist and hematologist at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey, where he started a multidisciplinary cancer clinic that included thoracic surgery and pulmonology. Dr. Saraiya is an assistant professor for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Dr. Saraiya is Former Chair of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Cancer Committee and a former member of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Continuing Education Committee. He is a member of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Institutional Review Board and Cancer Institute of New Jersey Scientific Review Board.
Dr. Saraiya is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, and American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is the coauthor of articles, abstracts, and book chapters on a wide range of topics in oncology. Dr. Saraiya's articles and abstracts are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Gastrointestinal Cancer Research, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is an editorial board member for Hematology / Oncology Today and he is an ad hoc reviewer for Supportive Care in Cancer, Clinical Cancer Research, Medical Oncology, and Pharmacotherapy. A sought-after speaker, Dr. Saraiya has delivered local, regional, national, and international invited presentations in his field.
Dr. Saraiya is a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Medicine Faculty Research Mentor Award and Saint Peters University Hospital Sister Marie DiPazzi Award for scholarship, humanism, and professionalism in medicine.
When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Saraiya enjoys traveling and photography.
