Smita Shah, MD, FCCP is a member of Summit Medical Group's Pulmonology team. Dr. Shah specializes in lung conditions, with expertise in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, interstitial lung disease, smoking cessation (quitting smoking), and lung problems suffered during pregnancy. Dr. Shah has special interest in cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. She is highly experienced in pulmonary procedures for lung cancer diagnosis, including advanced bronchoscopy with endobronchial ultrasound and navigational bronchoscopy insertion of bronchial stents for cancer. Additionally, she is trained and experience in the evaluation and management of sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea.
Dr. Shah provides compassionate care and strongly believes in continuing her education to stay on top of cutting-edge innovations in diagnoses and treatment of a wide spectrum of pulmonary diseases. Teaching medical residents and students has allowed served her well in keeping abreast of the most recent advances in her field.
Dr. Shah currently serves as Section Director of Pulmonary and Co-Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. She is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She has been listed as a Top Doc in NJ Monthly for several years running and is a proud recipient of the 2015 Harvey Nussbaum Golden Apple Award, a prestigious award bestowed annually by the Department of Medicine at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. She was also a 2014 American Cancer Society Diamond Ball Medical honoree.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Shah loves to travel, read and learn semi-classical Indian music.
