About Me
Alexandra Argiroff, MD is a member of Summit Medical Group's General Surgery team. Dr. Argiroff performs general surgery in adult patients, including hernia, gallbladder, anti-reflux, esophageal dysmotility, and appendix using minimally invasive techniques or procedures that utilize smaller incisions and result in faster recovery times. She also has extensive experience and training in performing bariatric surgery—a surgery that can help improve many obesity-related conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes and results in long-term weight loss success. “Destigmatizing the treatment of obesity is something I am very passionate about. When combined with a comprehensive treatment plan, bariatric surgery can be an effective tool for those struggling with obesity,” says Dr. Argiroff. Dr. Argiroff’s care philosophy is to treat the patient as a whole, while targeting their main health concern. As a provider, her goal is to make sure patients leave with a solid understanding of their diagnosis, treatment plan, and next steps. Dr. Argiroff’s passion for medicine blossomed while working internationally as an HIV/AIDS educator helping to care for a severely malnourished child. From that point on, she knew medicine was her calling. General surgery—an area that can make a tangible and dramatic difference in patients’ lives—took seed as her profession of choice. During her schooling, she gained a strong affinity for minimally invasive cases that resulted in fast recovery times and often lower complication rates. “Today’s technology allows us to do things today that surgeons 20 years ago never dreamed would be the standard of care,” says Dr. Argiroff.
Dr. Argiroff is an accomplished researcher in her field and has collaborated on chapters published in various textbooks on topics including laparoscopic techniques for repairing a hernia and bariatric surgery for the aging population.
When not caring for patients Dr. Argiroff enjoys spending time participating in medical outreach programs for the underserved population. One of her most meaningful personal achievements was her involvement in the launch of a health care and virtual consult system for an orphanage in Honduras. Via this system, physicians in the United States can offer critical, life-saving advice to patients in Honduras. “The innovative spirit this successful system was founded on, is the same spirit that fuels the field of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. I am proud to be on the forefront of emerging techniques and evidence-based practices that allow me to provide the best care possible to my patients,” she states.
Dr. Argiroff enjoys cooking, running, biking, skiing, and spending time with family.
