April Barnum, DO, is a member of Summit Medical Group’s Family Medicine team and has special expertise and training in sports medicine. Board certified in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), and Sports Medicine, Dr. Barnum provides comprehensive medical care, including prevention and holistic treatment of illness and injury in athletes and physically active individuals of all ages, skill levels, and sports. “Coming from a strong athletic background, it’s important to me that I encourage my patients to lead active, healthy lifestyles,” says Dr. Barnum.

Dr. Barnum is a native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where she grew up playing South Jersey travel soccer. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fordham University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and was inducted into the honor societies of Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Chapter of New York; Alpha Sigma Nu, Jesuit National Honor Society; Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society; and Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Society.

Dr. Barnum has a special clinical interest in Soccer Medicine and Performing Arts Medicine. While in residency, she was a medical volunteer and coach for the Special Olympics Pennsylvania in both soccer and basketball and a volunteer for Athletes Helping Athletes, Inc. During fellowship, she served as a team physician for athletes of St. Augustine High School, San Diego State University, and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams. Additionally, she provided medical coverage at the Battle on the Midway Collegiate Wrestling Showcase; the Susan G. Komen Walk for Breast Cancer; the San Diego Bayfair Thunderboat Races; and the home opener for San Diego’s new men’s professional soccer team, the San Diego Loyal Soccer Club.

In her spare time, Dr. Barnum enjoys spending time with her family, kickboxing, playing soccer, running, hiking, yoga, Zumba dance fitness, playing classical and electric cello, traveling, and finding new coffee shops to enjoy reading. Dr. April Barnum is excited to embark on her career at Summit Medical Group alongside family medicine physician and twin sister, Dr. Kimberly Barnum.
