About Me

Ki Won Kim, MD, is a member of Summit Medical Group's General Surgery team. Dr. Kim is trained and experienced in general surgery and endocrine surgery. He cares for patients with general surgical problems, including gallbladder disease, appendicitis, abdominal wall and groin hernias, skin and soft tissue lesions, and diseases of both the small and large intestine. Dr. Kim’s training in endocrine surgery has afforded him the skills necessary to care for patients with surgical problems related to the endocrine system such as thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal gland issues. He works closely with primary care physicians and endocrinologists to diagnose, treat, and if necessary, operate on patients with thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, goiters, hyperparathyroidism, and tumors of the adrenal gland. He is well trained in using laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques to perform abdominal surgery and proficient in using office-based ultrasound to assess the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Dr. Kim’s first exposure to medicine was during his volunteer work at hospitals and while working as an EMT in high school and college. During that time, he quickly discovered his love for genuine, meaningful human interaction and helping people with his own two hands. As a surgeon, Dr. Kim’s goal is first and foremost to educate, counsel, and coach his patients through the decision to undergo surgery saying, “I believe that honesty and integrity are paramount in conversations, and I make sure each patient is aware of all the different options, risks, and benefits associated with surgery.” He adds, “In carrying out an operation, I hold myself to the highest standards of safety and excellence.”

Outside of seeing patients, Dr. Kim enjoys spending time with his wife, who is a nurse practitioner, and their two children. He also loves listening to and playing music, good coffee, rock climbing, and traveling. He has been involved in various outreach efforts including local health fairs and medical mission trips and is always looking for new opportunities to get involved and serve his community. Additionally, Dr. Kim has spent extended periods of time abroad in India, Israel, and Peru. He is conversationally fluent in Spanish and Korean.
