Leslie Killeen is a Registered Dietitian at Summit Medical Group. Ms. Killeen is experienced in treating patients for various conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings and currently provides nutritional care and services to both children and adults. In addition to her position as a registered dietitian, she is a certified insulin pump trainer and has been a Certified Diabetes Educator for 26 years. She also holds additional certifications from the Commission on Dietetic Registration in Adult Weight Management and Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management. In recent years, her focus has been in pediatrics in endocrinology, gastroenterology and cystic fibrosis.

Ms. Killeen’s interest in a nutrition career was sparked while working in the food service department of a nursing home during high school. It was then she became interested in the role and responsibilities dietitians had in modifying diets to help treat residents’ illnesses.

Although Ms. Killeen enjoys the medical nutrition therapy aspect of her job, her passion lies in educating and counseling patients and their families/caregivers to affect change and achieve positive outcomes. “I believe in client-centered education and counseling that helps patients find their own motivation for changing lifestyle behaviors,” says Ms. Killeen. “I’m here to help my patients put the tools into their toolbox and to show them exactly how to use those tools.”

When not helping patients, Ms. Killeen enjoys participating in half marathons (walk/run mix), cooking, and visiting her adult children who live in other parts of the country. She also enjoys traveling with her husband and taking care of their pets. She has been an adjunct instructor in the Nutrition and Food Sciences Department at Montclair State University for 18 years.
