About Me
Mitchel S. Carter, MD, FACS, specializes in laparoscopic surgery and general surgery for benign and malignant disease of the appendix, breast, gallbladder, esophagus (including treatment for reflux disease), spleen, hernias, colon, and pancreas. To his credit, Dr. Carter performed the first laparoscopic gallbladder surgery at Morristown Medical Center. He was integral in developing the Morristown Medical Center Laparoscopic Surgery Program.
Dr. Carter was Chair of the Morristown Medical Center Surgical Invasive and Procedure Committee. He has supervised other surgeons during laparoscopic procedures and he has taught laparoscopic courses at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences as well as Ethicon, Inc., a laparoscopic equipment manufacturing company.
A sought-after speaker, Dr. Carter has delivered local, regional, and national invited presentations for the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Gastroenterology, and American Society of Geriatric Medicine. He is the author of articles and abstracts, which are published in American Journal of Surgery. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Medical Society of New Jersey and Morris County Medical Society.
Dr. Carter says, "In addition to educating my patients so that they can have a role in decisions about treatment, I am devoted to delivering the highest standard of care and achieving outstanding results." He adds, "I consider all aspects of each patient's health, lifestyle habits, and health goals to develop a personalized treatment regimen that addresses his or her unique needs."
Dr. Carter is a recipient of the Leo M. Davidoff Award for excellence in teaching medical students and fellow residents at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also earned the Outstanding House Officer Award during his chief residency year. More recently, Dr. Carter earned the Morristown Medical Center John Alkhas Memorial Award. He has been featured in the Castle Connolly "Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area" and New Jersey Monthly "Top Doctors" listings. Dr. Carter's Castle Connolly listings have been reprinted in US News and World Report and Inside Jersey.
