Massage therapy has been used to treat joint and circulatory problems for more than 3000 years. In recent years, this form of alternative therapy has become an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs.
Summit Medical Group offers a variety of types of massage therapy. Our massage therapists use massage as part of a complementary approach to medical treatment for a variety of temporary and chronic conditions, including:
- High blood pressure
- Immune system problems
- Low back pain
- Smoking and other addictions
Massage therapy employs techniques applied to the muscular structure and soft tissues such as kneading, stroking, tapping, compression, and pressure to reduce stress and fatigue and improve circulation.
Types of Massage Therapy
We offer a variety of massage techniques, including:
A type of massage therapy that uses the same principles as Swedish massage but works on a deeper level of muscles and connective tissues
Trigger point therapy
A type of massage that targets points that have been determined particularly painful and prone to muscular stress. The points on skeletal muscles can cause pain that radiates to other parts of the body
Sometimes called pregnancy massage, prenatal massage specializes in techniques that keep the mother and fetus safe. Pillows often are used to ensure the mother’s comfort
An alternative therapy that is based on a system of points on the feet and hands that correspond to the health of various organs within the body. Pressure is applied to the points to promote relaxation, health, and well-being
A type of specialized massage therapy for athletes that prevents injuries, promotes healing after injuries, and helps maintain strength and agility
The most common and well-known form of massage therapy, Swedish massage uses oils to help the massage therapist make long, fluid massage motions on the body
