Key milestones

A Trailblazer in Multispecialty, Coordinated Care and Urgent Care

  • More than a century ago, in 1919, Drs. William Lawrence and Maynard Bensley pioneered the concept of bringing physicians with different specialties together to deliver better care, greater convenience and cost efficiency, establishing the foundation of Summit Medical Group.
  • With the vision of building healthier, kinder communities, CityMD opened its first urgent care center in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NY in 2010.
  • In 2018, Summit’s model of care expanded nationally to Central Oregon, forming Summit Medical Group Oregon.
  • Summit Medical Group and CityMD merged in August 2019 to enable greater access to high quality coordinated primary, specialty and urgent care. The combined company is now Summit Health.

The next chapter of Summit Health will bring deep clinical integration, growth in providers and locations, and an enhanced digital experience for our patients.
